Improving children’s reading: Research informing practice

2017-2018

In collaboration with 22 primary schools across six local authorities in Scotland, this project brought together researcher and teachers’ knowledge, expertise and experience through four focused workshops aimed at improving children’s reading. The workshops covered a range of topics: early reading instruction, word reading and spelling, reading comprehension with different text types and reading for pleasure.  Researcher and teacher resources developed from this project were aimed at making research findings accessible and relevant to primary school teachers.  Our resources include short videos, research/practice posters and blog posts and can be found on our website.

This project was funded by an ESRC Impact Acceleration Account grant from the University of Edinburgh.  If you would like any further information about this project, please contact Dr Sarah McGeown: s.mcgeown@ed.ac.uk
